Product Describe
The HP 17-cn palmrest is a component that covers the area below the keyboard and above the touchpad on the laptop. It provides support and comfort for the user's palms while typing and using the touchpad.
To install the HP 17-cn palmrest, you will need a few tools such as a small Phillips screwdriver and a plastic pry tool or a guitar pick. Here is a step-by-step guide to installing the palmrest:
1. Turn off the laptop and unplug it from the power source. Close the lid and place the laptop on a flat and clean surface.
2. Flip the laptop over and locate the battery release latch. Slide the latch to the unlock position and remove the battery from the laptop.
3. Locate and remove all the screws on the Bottom Cover of the laptop. These screws may be marked with a small keyboard or palmrest icon. Keep the screws in a safe place as you will need them later.
4. Once all the screws are removed, use the plastic pry tool or guitar pick to carefully separate the bottom cover from the laptop. Start from one corner and gently pry along the edges, releasing the plastic clips that hold the cover in place. Be cautious not to apply too much force to avoid damaging the clips or the cover.
5. Once the bottom cover is removed, locate the screws that secure the palmrest to the laptop. These screws are usually located on the top side of the laptop, near the hinges. Remove these screws and keep them separated from the rest.
6. Gently lift the palmrest from the laptop, starting from one side and working your way towards the other. Be careful not to pull too hard as there may be cables or connectors attached to the palmrest.
7. Once the palmrest is lifted, you will see the cables and connectors that need to be disconnected. Carefully detach these cables by gently pulling on the connectors. Take note of their positions and orientation for reassembly.
8. With the old palmrest removed, take the new HP 17-cn palmrest and align it with the laptop. Make sure the screw holes and connectors match up correctly.
9. Reconnect the cables and connectors to their respective ports on the new palmrest. Ensure they are firmly attached and in the correct orientation.
10. Place the palmrest back onto the laptop and secure it with the screws you removed earlier. Tighten the screws, but do not overtighten as it may damage the palmrest or the laptop.
11. Carefully reattach the bottom cover of the laptop by aligning the clips and pressing it down gently. Ensure all the clips are securely fastened.
12. Finally, reinsert the battery into the laptop and lock it in place using the battery release latch.
Congratulations! You have successfully installed the HP 17-cn palmrest. You can now turn on your laptop and enjoy the improved comfort and support provided by the new palmrest.
